hi ya!
before i fill you in on what i've been up to, i wanted to treat you to a little exciting giveaway! hip hip hooray! giveaways are always fun : )
a while back i was asked by the very nice and oh so talented mb shaw to contribute to her new book Flavor for Mixed Media. how could i say no to a book about food and art? two of my favorite things! not to mention, i jumped at the chance to be featured alongside the likes of artists such as dolan geiman and judy wise, who are just two of the many other wonderful artists featured on the pages of mb's book.
i first met mb at squam in 2009, when we were teaching our classes side by side. it's kinda a funny story...
here i am in my local barnes and noble, with my trusty iphone in hand, i got so excited when i spied her book on the shelf...
the book is full of great, new-to-me ideas and techniques along with recipes, art, stories and inspiration. i really loved looking through the pages, i can only describe it as a fun art "cookbook", it will be sure to inspire you to get cooking both in the studio and in the kitchen!
oh, and that giveaway? it's to win a copy of her book! yay! i also thought i'd be nice and throw in a print of my piece featured in her book as well. (see above picture)
so there will be two winners, one to win the book and the other to win my print of "you are so much sunshine".
how do i win you say?
the rules:
- comment here on this post. in your comment, tell us your favorite meal. i'd love to hear about your tasty, inspiring dishes.
-you'll have one week to enter the contest, be sure to enter by noon (eastern standard time) on wednesday, april 13th.
-make sure there is a link to get in touch with you, but you'll also need check back here next thursday 4/14 to see if you've won. i'll announce the winners here on my blog. mb will send the winner the book and i'll send the other winner the print.
happy giveaway and good luck!
thanks to you for playing and for mb for asking me to be a part of the fun!
what a fantastic giveaway, I've been eyeing that book for a while :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite meal is a large tin of tuna, chopped garlic, olive oil, capers warmed together and tossed with 500g of cooked spaghetti and served with a sprinkle of fresh chopped parsley - yum and healthy too :)
xxMiriam
Ohhhh!! I'd love love love the chance to win. Wow, love curly girl art's favorite. Mine is pretty simple. I'm just going to say chicken... because that's it. Chicken ANY way is a favorite of mine. I haven't met a chicken I didn't love to eat : ))
ReplyDeleteLovely giveaway. My favorite meal...hard to choose since there is so much good food. But a favorite is grilled shrimp with garlic butter, roasted asparagus, some fresh bread, a salad, and chocolate mousse for dessert.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite meal is miso soup with spider roll sushi. I love Asian food :)

Oh, a fun give-away!!! Hmmm...favorite meal is so hard. I love grilled cheese and tomato soup!
ReplyDeleteJust one? I love to make pasta w/ chicken sausauge, baby spinach and tomatoes fresh from the garden. Top w/ a little feta.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the magic from squam '09 --having had you both for classes this is just way awesome. Congrats to the both of you!
A single fave meal is way too hard to choose...but one of my top faves is a Jamie Oliver recipe - rosemary skewers with cubes of monkfish and ciabatta, wrapped in prosciutto, drizzled with olive oil and baked...oh MAN you're making me hungry! :-) If you want to drool more, this was part of my birthday meal last fall, and I blogged it, complete with recipes, here: http://www.candiedfabrics.com/2010/11/17/awesome-pumpkin-cheesecake-recipe/
ReplyDeletestewed squash, green beans, my Mom's cornbread with slices of tomatoes and cantaloupe
ReplyDeleteHi! I'd love a chance to win the book or your print. That would be so awesome! I've already pre-ordered the book that you wrote and can't wait to get it. My favorite meal is pretty simple.. pizza muffins. Take a half of an english muffin, spread some tomato paste or pizza sauce on it, and then sprinkle some parmesan cheese on it. Bake in the oven for about 15 minutes or until cheese is melted. Easy schmeezy. You can also get more elaborate and add meats or veggies, like pepperoni, sausage or cut up onions and peppers.
ReplyDeleteMy email is marciadotcom @ yahoo.com if I win.
Great giveaway. I saw this book just a couple of days ago and would love love a copy of my own! My favorite meal is a big cup of homemade soup... I have one everyday (sometimes twice:).
ReplyDeleteLove this giveaway...I've seen the book at B&N, too! My favorite meal is definitely the pot roast my husband makes, with carrots and potatoes. It's the perfect meal for a cozy winter evening at home, and we all fight for the leftovers the next day!
ReplyDeleteI saw this book at B&N and absolutely LOVED your section. I would loved to win that book and anything by you. Love your style. (Is there a limit to how many times the word "love" can be used in one post?) My favorite meal is the chicken fajita recipe from ourbestbites.com. There is really nothing like those fajitas. You have to try it!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite meal right now is anything simple, but comforting- simple whole wheat pasta tossed with olive oil, fresh basil from the garden, and some parmesan, served with a giant green salad.
ReplyDelete:)
fun giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI am loving stir fry tofu with asparagus and purple cabbage over a bed of baby spinach, with a light asian dressing...so yummy! I make a big batch of the tofu to have all week with lots of veggies.
Oh this book looks awesome! I didn't win the giveaway on Judy's blog, hopefully I'll have better luck here!
ReplyDeleteOne of my fav meals is a very simple sandwich: Whole grain bread with light mayo or whipped cream cheese, provolone, avocado, and tomato. Yum!
Thanks for a chance to win. :)

What a lively opportunity!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite meal is sushi which we make at home.
what a wonderful giveaway! hard to pick just one, but my favorite meal would be chicken and dumplings. :) comfort food at it's best! xoxo
ReplyDeleteLovely book, thanks for the chance to win it!
ReplyDeleteIn spring my favorite treat are waffles, home made with whipped cream and jam, picture on my blog. :-)
Take care.
Thank you both for this opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI have so enjoyed hearing everyone's favorite meals! I would have to say my favorite meal is a homemade pizza with fresh from the garden tomatoes & basil. YUM!
Ok, I definately have the oddest favorite meal so far in the comments. Mine is pappardelle con cinghiale, which is ribbon pasta with a wild boar ragu. I make it every New Year's Day and I absolutely love it!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love the idea of a book about food and art at the same time! And I would LOVE to win either of these :) My fave thing at the moment (especially now the sun's coming out) is brown rice (cooled) with green beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, a bit of chicken maybe and then olive oil and lemon drizzled over. So yummy. And you can vary it in infinite ways!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to enter Sarah! I've been eyeing this book but I'm in the middle of moving/packing as well as being 22 weeks preggers!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd because of my wonderful "dual condition", I love simple healthy foods, the latest being, baked chicken enchilada with greek plain yogurt as topping (instead of sour cream).
Yea! :) Hi, Sarah! I hope you've been well. This give-away is "good enough to eat," should I say (since it's a cookbook theme)? It's hard for me to narrow down to just one favorite meal - oh, how food is my friend! But right now I'm loving homemade butternut squash-and-leek soup. Divinity! The recipe I have makes a ton; it's very filling and good for you; and it's such a great, sunny color. (In fact, it would go very nicely with your "you are so much sunshine" print. :) Thanks for the fun opportunity. Wishing you a lovely day!

Hard to narrow it down to just one... Pretty much anything ethnic, though I love my mum's macaroni and cheese. And I adore simple, pan fried scallops. Though since I'm not much of a cook, I should probably say "whatever someone else makes"...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to win either lovely prize!
Sara, what a great giveaway! My favorite meal is summer's end vegetable gratin. Oh, it's so delicious. The recipe comes from Cook's Illustrated and it's super easy. When made with fresh veggies that are in season there is NOTHING like it. It's topped with a tasty crust. I think I need to go make this now...
ReplyDeleteMy favorite meal is homemade mac and cheese with steamed broccoli- comfort food at its best :) Hope I win the book and print!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun giveaway! :) One of my favorite meals is pumpkin penne with sweet red peppers and a little sprinkle of parmesan cheese. (Fall is my favorite season, and I pretty much love pumpkin-flavored anything!!) :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome giveaway! Favorite meal: Thanksgiving dinner. :) Mashed potatoes, stuffing, dark-meat turkey, and pumpkin pie. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for offering this giveaway. I love all types of mexican dishes, especially when accompanied with an ice cold beer!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! My favorite meal ... I love cooking up a kind of modified kitchari: take a big soup pot and heat some oil, add onion, garlic and some spices like turmeric, cumin seeds, chili powder, a cinnamon stick and a couple of whole cloves (you can do any Indian spices here) - saute for a few minutes, then add basmati rice and saute a few minutes more. I then toss in whatever veggies I have on hand: carrots, potato, broccoli or cauliflower and then add enough water for the amount of rice you put in. Bring to a boil, lower to simmer and cover. The rice will cook and the veggies will steam. Ready in about 20 - 25 minutes. I add frozen peas at the very end. We eat it with wheat tortillas and chutney. YUM! (great for cleaning out the veggie bin and easy for a busy mom!)
ReplyDeletexo Lis
My favorite meal is always roasted chicken or turkey with gravy and stuffing. Mashed potatoes are good but I can just get by with the stuffing and loads of gravy...now I'm really hungry ;)
ReplyDeleteLove this book and I also saw it recently in B&N. I've tried to take photos with my cell phone before in B&N but I'm always afraid someone will report me to security...lol Thanks for a fun giveaway ;) Fondly, Roberta

My favorite meal...has to be my mom's homemade spaghetti and meatballs. Don't have the secret recipe to post! :)
ReplyDeleteBest,
Mary
ohhhh my favorite meal is Lamb saag with basmati rice, I don't get to eat it often because no one else in my family likes Indian food

The book looks great...what a delicious giveaway! I love your art too!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite meal is a huge summer salad...crisp lettuce topped with the basics...cucumber, tomato, carrots...then jazzed up with fresh strawberries and dry roasted walnuts-easy to do just before serving the salad...having some olives and cottage cheese on the side also makes me happy.
Favorite meal? Hmmm...as a family we make spring rolls. Lots of thinly cut veggies- cukes, carrots, avocado and sprouts wrapped in rice paper wrappers and then a lite asian dipping sauce. Don't forget the basil or cilantro leaves!

ReplyDeleteWow! What a wonderful giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite meal is homemade pasta with sauce (also homemade) with hot, baked bread. mmm
What a fabulous prize ... I would love a copy of the book but your print even more ! My favorite meal is roast chicken with a lemon and salt placed inside, together in a roasting pan with potatoes and carrots until they are soft and full of the chicken flavor. Servied with a yummy salad and simple ice-cream and chocolate sauce for dessert. This is a meal to be eaten as a family, it makes me think of Sunday lunches and being safe and comforted. Yum. x
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI recently discovered Puttanesca - and I am so enjoying it on any and all freshly steamed veggies. I've put it on cauliflower, zucchini or tonight I had it with green beans and onion. So very tasty!
